Just like with the coil insertion, we will do a pelvic examination and a blood pressure check. This is a good opportunity to discuss your next steps regarding contraception, whether that’s a new coil, another method, or planning for pregnancy.
Our gynaecologist will carefully remove your coil. This is usually a quick procedure that involves gently pulling on the thin threads of the coil that are visible at the opening of your womb (cervix).
If you need a prescription for a new contraception or any other related medication, this can be arranged for you. If you’re looking to have a new coil fitted immediately after removal, make sure you let us know when you book your appointment.
Remember
If you’re planning to have your coil removed, it’s very important to either avoid sex or use additional contraception (like condoms) for 7 days prior to your removal date. This is to prevent any risk of pregnancy once the coil is removed.
