Recurrant Thrush
Thrush, a common yeast infection, affects most women at some point. While a one-off bout of thrush can usually be treated quickly, experiencing recurrent thrush (four or more episodes in a year) often requires a more thorough approach.
The goal for recurrent cases isn’t just to treat the symptoms, but to identify and address the underlying cause to prevent future occurrences.
Our specialised consultation is designed for women who find themselves dealing with four or more episodes of thrush within a single year. If this sounds like your experience, exploring the root cause can offer a more lasting solution than repeated symptomatic treatments.

A comprehensive recurrent thrush package aims to thoroughly investigate your condition. Here’s what you can expect:
Consultation with our Gynaecologist: You’ll have a detailed discussion with our specialist gynaecologist. They will take a full medical history, discuss your symptoms, and understand the pattern of your recurrent thrush. This initial conversation is crucial for guiding the diagnostic process.
Blood Tests: A series of blood tests is typically performed to check for any underlying health conditions or deficiencies that might contribute to recurrent infections. These commonly include:
- FBC (Full Blood Count): To assess overall health and detect any signs of infection or anaemia.
- Ferritin: To check your iron stores, as iron deficiency can sometimes impact immunity.
- Vitamin D: Low levels of Vitamin D can affect immune function.
- HbA1c & Glucose: These tests check for diabetes or pre-diabetes, as elevated blood sugar levels can create an environment where yeast thrives.
- Pelvic examination with high vaginal swab: A thorough pelvic examination will be conducted. During this, a high vaginal swab test will be taken. This swab is then sent for microscopic culture and sensitivities for Candida, which helps identify the specific type of yeast causing the infection and determines which antifungal medications will be most effective.
- Occasionally, our specialist will suggest a vaginal microbiome testing for a comprehensive investigation and treatment
- Prescription if required: Based on the examination and test results, your gynaecologist will provide a tailored prescription for treatment, if necessary.
- Comprehensive report: You’ll receive a detailed report summarising your findings, diagnosis, and treatment plan. A copy will also be sent to your GP to ensure continuity of care.
If you’re experiencing recurrent thrush, understanding the underlying cause is the first step towards lasting relief.
