A complete physical examination will form part of the assessment, along with a range of specialised blood tests to screen for various conditions that can contribute to miscarriage. These include:
-
- Full Blood Count: To assess overall health.
- Clotting Factors: Tests like Antithrombin III, Factor V Leiden gene, Factor II Prothrombin gene, Factor VIIIc Activity Assay, Activated protein C resistance, Protein C and Protein S, and Lupus anticoagulant are crucial for identifying any blood clotting disorders.
- Genetic Factors: We check for the MTHFR gene and perform chromosomal analysis (karyotyping) to look for genetic predispositions.
- Autoimmune Markers: Including Anticardiolipin antibodies and Beta II glycoprotein, which can indicate certain autoimmune conditions.
- Thyroid Profile: To assess thyroid function, as imbalances can affect pregnancy.
- AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone): A test that can provide insight into ovarian reserve.
We may also perform
A Pelvic Ultrasound Scan: Provides detailed 3D imaging of your reproductive organs. And Chromosomal Analysis for Male Partner: To assess for any genetic factors in your partner that could contribute to recurrent loss.
A further specialist immunology testing for nK (Natural killer cells) and other specialist tests, such as immune-histology staining of cells from the lining of the womb, can also be arranged.
